The Hatch Baby rest and Baby Rest+ retail for $60 and $90 respectively.
Rest
The
Rest is the older model controlled via Bluetooth. It supports a schedulable light and sound
machine. You define the schedule with start and end times for specific activities. This makes logical
sense, but you do then need to be careful to not overlap times.
Pros
- High Industrial Design
- Able to be easily placed away from power outlet
Cons
- Bluetooth
- Requires an app
- US plug only
- Custom power adapter
Rest+
The
Rest+ replaces Bluetooth with Wifi, adds a clock, audio monitor, and battery. No doubt, through
their partnership with Amazon,
they’ve used WiFi to enable Alexa support. The addition of a clock and battery are great. Using a
phone as an audio monitor is mostly a gimmic. Most parents would still opt for a normal audio monitor.
A phone based audio monitor relies on a ton of things to work: your home network, the cloud, and your phone.
Even if you ignore the reliability of those, also consider the delay added plus the possible security implications of adding yet another cloud-connected listening device to your home.
Pros
- High industrial design
- WiFi instead of Bluetooth
- Able to be easily placed away from power outlet
- Clock and battery
Cons
- Requires an app
- US plug only
- Custom power adapter
- Cloud-connected listening device
